Paul Pierce reminisced about his lone NBA championship win and how it came about. The Boston Celtics icon was born and raised in Inglewood and had the unique chance to steal hardware from his hometown upon taking down Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2008, while also taking home Finals MVP honors.

On a recent Knuckleheads podcast with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles, Pierce shared what it was like to win it all and come back to his hometown flashing some major accolades as a member of the Celtics:

“Dude, that was a dream come true,” said Pierce. “Kid from L.A., Inglewood, play in Boston, goin' to the championship vs. the Lakers. And then get the MVP vs. Kobe? That was like — whew, man.”

Pierce still remembers how he went to celebrate that Celtics title in front of his hometown after beating the Lakers 4-2 in the NBA Finals:

“You know what I did? So we won. We all go to Vegas, kick it. So I got the MVP trophy. I come back to L.A. — I live out here.” Pierce recalled. “And I go to Katana, right there on Sunset, and I put the MVP trophy right on the table outside. Everybody lookin' around.

“Oh, I'm feeling myself right now. I'm feeling myself right now. I put the trophy down there. Oh, they was hatin' that. Oh my, I'll never forget that.”

While stealing a title from one's hometown might be a bittersweet feeling for some players, the Celtics legend reveled in that opportunity — not only winning his first title, but playing his best basketball in front of those who grew up watching him rise to stardom.
