That 2016 championship team will never be forgotten by Cavs fans. Tristan Thompson and the rest of his Cleveland teammates became the first team in NBA history to erase a 3-1 series deficit in the Finals. The Cavs defeated the Golden State Warriors in seven epic games.
Thompson, one of the best rebounders in the NBA, finishes his Cavs career with averages of 9.4 points and 8.7 rebounds. He's joining a Celtics squad that got all the way to the 2020 Eastern Conference Finals at Walt Disney World in the NBA bubble. Boston lost to the Heat in six games, but the future of the club is bright with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker leading the way.
The Celtics were in need of a starting center after trading Enes Kanter to the Portland Trail Blazers and losing Al Horford to the Philadelphia 76ers in the summer of 2019. Thompson put up 12.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per game for the Cavs in 2019-20. That is production Boston is looking to get from its starting big man spot in 2020-21.
