The Boston Celtics have an embarrassment of riches.

Whether you're talking about their deep roster stacked with star talent or their four first-round draft picks in 2019, it's clear that the Celtics have ample assets. But 2019 free agency could limit what Boston can do in the offseason.

ESPN Insider Bobby Marks points out that Boston is in a precarious position and their four first-round draft picks could come in handy. Marks writes:

“GM Danny Ainge is sitting on an insurance policy with the potential to have four first-rounders in the June draft: the Celtics' own, the Kings' (protected for No. 1), the Grizzlies' (protected Nos. 1-8) and the Clippers' (lottery-protected). While all four certainly have value, Boston will be hesitant to put any in a trade based on the uncertainty of its own 2019 free agents.

“With a payroll that projects to hit at least $140 million and Jaylen Brown becoming extension-eligible starting in July, those draft assets could be an inexpensive replacement for free agents Terry Rozier, Marcus Morris and Aron Baynes.”

There is definite uncertainty in advance of the 2019 offseason for Boston.

Rozier, Morris and Baynes could all leave Boston for one reason or another. As a result, Celtics general manager Danny Ainge could be hesitant to trade any picks because of the potential value they could bring to the roster.

Young, cost-controlled players are a necessity on a championship roster. If the Celtics draft right and keep their major stars like point guard Kyrie Irving, they could be positioned to contend for titles regardless of where Rozier, Morris and Baynes end up this summer.
