Amid the Boston Celtics‘ failed draft transactions and Gordon Hayward's departure, latest rumors reveal that the team is open to trading guard Marcus Smart.

David Aldridge of The Athletic highlighted the Celtics' future will be centered around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown—both of whom inked long-term extensions. While Smart has played a pivotal role for the Beantown team over the last few years, Aldridge noted that he's not untouchable and can be acquired by other teams via trade.

But the Celtics are still centered by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, now both signed to long-term extensions, with Marcus Smart (who’s not ungettable, per league sources) and Kemba Walker back in strong support roles.

Marcus Smart is now the longest-tenured Celtic, having donned the legendary Green and White since being drafted sixth overall in 2014. But this fact alone does not make Smart untouchable. Their six-game exit at the hands of the Miami Heat is a clear indication that changes have to be made, especially in the big man spot.

Aldridge noted that Hayward's departure has given the Celtics enough room to lure get a reliable big man. It should be noted that their attempt to move up the 2020 NBA Draft with hopes of getting James Wiseman was shut down. Their recent acquisition of Tristan Thompson was a good one, but they certainly need more depth in the frontcourt in order to contend with the likes of Bam Adebayo and Danny Green.

The 2020-21 NBA season is just around the corner. Despite that, however, Celtics fans should expect a few more tweaks to the roster. Smart may be an essential piece, but he may be needed to be sent away to get someone better.
