In an offseason full of drama, the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers recently completed a blockbuster trade involving Isaiah Thomas and Kyrie Irving. While the trade was made official the same day, there have been more discussions between the two teams following Thomas' physical.

Heading into the 2017-18 NBA season, there are only four players remaining from last year's roster for Boston. At a recent event, head coach Brad Stevens was asked why the Celtics traded Thomas by a young fan according to MassLive:

While the NBA is ultimately a business, some feel Thomas did not deserve to be traded considering the circumstances. After being traded during the 2014-15 NBA season, Thomas became the face of the franchise and led them to three consecutive playoff appearances. In addition, he actively recruited Al Horford and Gordon Hayward to sign in free agency.

As the Celtics and Cavaliers must decide if they want to complete or void the trade, it will be interesting to see what ultimately happens. There are expectations the Cavaliers will ask for additional assets, but the Celtics feel they have given enough in Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and 2018 Brooklyn Nets first round draft pick.

Originally the 60th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, Thomas averaged 28.9 points last season.
