Chandler Parsons announced his retirement after nine seasons in the NBA. The former small forward took to Instagram Tuesday to make the announcement. He wrote a very long, heartwarming caption about his time in the league; here is just a bit of it:

“My entire life all I wanted to be was an NBA player. I didn’t even realize, or think what came with that, I just wanted to compete and play basketball at the highest level. I can proudly say, I did THAT! It wasn’t perfect, but it was a blast and I want to take a moment to thank every single person who helped me reach my dreams. My family, my friends, my aau and high school program, University of Florida, thank you for preparing me and getting me ready for the journey.”

Along with thanking the people who prepared him for his journey, Parsons thanked his former teammates and people he worked with throughout his career. The small forward began his career with the Houston Rockets from 2011 to 2014. He then went to the Dallas Mavericks from 2014 to 2016, and the Memphis Grizzlies from 2016 to 2019. Parsons finished his career with the Atlanta Hawks from 2019 to 2020.

The emotional Instagram post drew in tons of love and admiration throughout the NBA, as well as other professional sports. Former Grizzlies teammate Jaren Jackson and former Hawks teammate Trae Young both commented on the post to congratulate him. Even former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel commented “Proud of you legend!”

Along with his retirement from the NBA, Parsons received a “substantial amount” in his lawsuit from a car accident in January 2020, per NBA insider Shams Charania. The incident, involving a drunk driver, resulted in Parsons' career-ending injuries.
