During the 80's and 90's, there were a lot of white American players in the NBA considered as dominant or one of the best in their positions.

The likes of John Stockton, Bill Laimbeer, and Boston Celtics‘ greats Kevin McHale and Larry Bird were some of the most successful white American players during their time, if not, in league history.

But in the current crop of players the league has today, it is dominated by African Americans. According to The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport, only 18.3 percent of the total NBA players are white Americans.

Marc Spears of The Undefeated, recently got a chance to ask six of the top white American players in the league today. Ryan Anderson, J.J. Redick, Jason Smith, Chandler Parsons, Kevin Love and Gordon Hayward, who they think is the best among them.

Five of them answered with someone among the group of respondents except for one who considered himself the best.

Parsons responded to the question confidently and did not second-guess himself:

“Me, of course.”

After signing a max contract with the Memphis Grizzlies in the offseason, a lot is expected from Parsons as he is thought to be the missing piece for a team who wants to make a lot of noise in the Western Conference this year. He is currently recovering from an injury and is already close to returning.

Parsons definitely has the skill set to be successful in the league. His perimeter shooting is his biggest weapon along with the ability to play multiple positions. One thing that has hindered him from continuing to showcase his talents is being injury prone.

If he's be able to stay healthy this season and contribute to the Grizzlies' quest of making a deep playoff run, there will be no reason for him not to be considered one of the best white American players in the NBA today.
