One of the major adjustments that the NBA has made over the offseason for the upcoming campaign is the extended regular season calendar to reduce the number of back-to-back games.

This change was made in large to help decrease the number of times that players decide to be healthy scratches from games. However, this didn't exactly excite everyone as Hall of Famer Charles Barkley dissed the current crop of NBA players for influencing the league to make this alteration.

Barkley has never been one to hold back his true feelings about any matter and this wasn't any different. What makes it a more prominent topic in his eyes is that it's a complete change in thought process from when he played in the NBA where the thought of sitting out games wasn't discussed or implemented.

However, it's a completely different era in the league where the long-term picture has more importance in the regular season as sitting out games is viewed as providing additional rest to star players to be better prepared physically for the playoffs and beyond that.

The NBA has, for the most part, operated in the best interest of the players, and the decision to shake up the schedule a bit is to space out the schedule more to minimize the use of sitting out games. It is also a move made in order to help the league make more profit with the star players taking the floor in nationally televised games and eliminating the excuse of there being too many back-to-backs.

There may be detractors like Barkley, but this move could prove to be huge in helping the league garner more financial gains.
