The Kansas City Chiefs and Andy Reid are looking very smart for trading Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins and turning the keys over to Patrick Mahomes, even if it was just for one week.

Mahomes finished their season-opening game against the Los Angeles Chargers throwing for 256 yards and four touchdowns. Most importantly the Chiefs finished the game with a victory over an in-division rival. Reid was really impressed with what he saw from Mahomes and thinks it's just the beginning of what can be accomplished.

“He made plays, and he did it with his legs, he did it with throwing, he did it with checks,” Reid said, via ESPN.com. “I have a lot of respect for [Chargers defensive coordinator] Gus Bradley and his defense. He threw a few things at Mahomes. He got him a few times. But I thought Pat did a nice job of handling it against an experienced and very good defensive coordinator. He’s a unique kid. He’s got to keep working here. He’s just at the beginning of this thing. We’ve got to keep moving forward, taking steps forward.”

Mahomes and Tyreek Hill seem to be on the same page and it was the difference in the game. Hill finished with seven receptions for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Hill said that Mahomes had good control over the huddle and seemed to be confident which helped the other guys.

Kareem Hunt didn't get anything going and that is going to need to be worked on in the coming weeks but right now the Chiefs offense looks like it's in store for a big season.
