The Kansas City Chiefs managed to make quite a statement with their dominant win over the Houston Texans in the 2020 NFL season opener. Meanwhile, the performance of running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire only seemed to serve as the cherry on top.

Edwards-Helaire enjoyed quite the NFL debut by toting 25 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown. He adits that he was on cloud nine after the game, via Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star:

“I’m kind of just floating,” Edwards-Helaire, the first-round pick, said of his emotions after his debut.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is happy with having another weapon in his arsenal to work with.

“I thought the offensive line did a great job of giving him holes to run through, and he hit it every single time,” Mahomes said. “He’s going to keep getting better. It’s another weapon that I kind of have in this offense. We’re going to keep doing whatever we can to keep moving the ball and scoring touchdowns.”

The Chiefs used a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft to take Edwards-Helaire as their new, potential workhorse. It is safe to say that he has gotten off to a stellar start in filling this role with over five yards per carry against the Texans. The onus will now fall on the rookie to maintain the high standards that have been put in place with his new team.

Meanwhile, fans continue to marvel at just how loaded this personnel is in Kansas City. Although this offense boasts the most high-powered passing game behind Mahomes, the balance that Edwards-Helaire provides on the ground could help them kick things up a notch this season.
