One of the cornerstones of the Kansas City Chiefs has unfortunately passed away. Jim Lynch, a former linebacker for the Chiefs back in the 1970s, has passed away. As of the time of writing, the cause of death has not been announced. (via New York Post)

Jim Lynch is one of the best players in Chiefs history, helping the team win Super Bowl IV back in 1970. The Notre Dame product was selected by his team in the second round of the 1967, and immediately made an impact on the team. His efforts on the defensive side of the ball helped solidify Kansas' spot amongst the top dogs in the NFL during that period.

To this day, Lynch is still amongst the top linebackers in KC history. He may have played alongside all-time greats like Bobby Bell and Willie Lanier, but his impact cannot be understated. There's a reason why Lynch still holds the third spot in the Chiefs' interception leaderboard for linebackers, just behind his peers Bell and Lanier.

Jim Lynch has also been honored for his incredible performance on both the collegiate and the professional scene. Kansas City inducted the linebacker into the team's Hall of Honor in 1990. Just two years later, Lynch was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame for co-captaining a Notre Dame squad that won the title in 1966.

We will keep you updated on more details that will be released about the death of Jim Lynch. Our sincerest condolences to the family of the Kansas City Chiefs great.
