The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for their AFC Championship showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals, but all eyes are on the status of Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs' QB is dealing with a high-ankle sprain and is up against the clock to be able to suit up on Sunday. He took a major step in the right direction on Wednesday and explained where he's at with the injury in a media address ahead of practice, via James Palmer of the NFL Network.

ā€œIt's feeling good,ā€ said Mahomes of his ankle. ā€œFew days of treatment, few days of rehab. Excited to feel the practice field and kind of test it out and see where I'm at, but it's feeling good so far.ā€

Mahomes suffered the ankle injury against the Jaguars in the Divisional Round. While a high ankle sprain typically knocks a player out of action for a few weeks, Mahomes is hoping to be back on the field in time for the AFC Championship bout against the Bengals.

He's testing out the ankle on the practice field on Wednesday, which hopefully, will yield positive results for the Chiefs. Mahomes briefly exited the Divisional Round game against the Jaguars and was replaced by Chad Henne. Mahomes returned to action after pleading with coaches and trainers, insisting he would not exit the Chiefs' playoff game.

Importantly, Mahomes was not wearing a walking boot during his media address.

Patrick Mahomes seemed to be in great spirits on Wednesday, and if all goes well at practice it would certainly bode well for his availability against the Bengals in the Conference Championship.
