Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will not play in Week 18 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs have already locked up the AFC West and will give Kelce the week off to rest ahead of the playoffs.

ESPN's Adam Schefter previously reported Sunday morning that the Chiefs were expected to give Kelce a chance to hit the 1,000-yard mark this season by playing against the Chargers in Week 18. Kelce needed 16 receiving yards Sunday to record his eighth straight season of at least 1,000 receiving yards. However, Kansas City has opted to play it safe and rest Kelce, leaving him with 93 catches for 984 yards on the season.

Kelce has been another steady anchor for the Chiefs this season. While his numbers have dropped some in recent weeks, the tight end notched at least five receptions in three of the last four games. Kelce has two games this season with more than 100 yards receiving, which came in back-to-back weeks in October. He finishes the season with five receiving touchdowns, but he hasn't scored one since a November game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kelce joins several other notable Chiefs who will not play in this game. Patrick Mahomes isn't suiting up, while running back Isiah Pacheco is also out due to a shoulder and quadricep injury, per NFL Network.

The Chiefs are 10-6 on the season and first in the AFC West. The Chargers enter Sunday's game with a 5-11 record. The Chiefs and Chargers kick off at 4:25 ET on Sunday to wrap up the regular season.
