Tyreek Hill and Darren Sproles know that after a second consecutive dominant offensive season for the Kansas City Chiefs, many believed the reigning Super Bowl champions would use their first-round pick on a defensive player. Instead, the Chiefs plucked LSU Tigers running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire with the 32nd overall pick.
Chiefs star wide receiver Tyreek Hill on Monday, while speaking to reporters, researched the national champion rusher and has since compared him to retired Philadelphia Eagles back Darren Sproles.
Per Charles Goldman in Chiefs Wire:
Edwards-Helaire, 21, should provide another layer of dynamic playmaking out of the backfield for the Chiefs, who of course already have loads of offensive talent, including Hill. The Tigers running back rushed for 1,414 yards on 215 carries, scoring 16 touchdowns on the ground in his junior, and final, season for LSU in 2019-20.
Sproles, a 5-foot-6 pro who retired at the conclusion of the 2019 season, spent a decade and a half in the NFL, including six seasons with the Eagles, was known as a versatile running back who often returned kicks and punts along with catching passes out of the backfield along with rushing duties. The Chiefs would love to have their own equivalent of Sproles for the next 10 years.
