The Kansas City Chiefs made an under-the-radar addition by signing Marquise Brown to a one-year, $7 million contract this offseason to improve their wide receiver room, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes' comments on what the wide receiver will do for the rest of the offense should be eye-opening for the rest of the NFL.

“Honestly, I don't know how he's here in our place because of how talented he is — He's gonna help get Trav (Travis Kelce) open, help Rashee (Rice) open, he's gonna help get all these guys open,” Patrick Mahomes said, via KC Sports Network. “I'm very excited to get him out there in the regular season.”

The Chiefs won the Super Bowl last season, but the regular season was up and down, and a lot of that was due to the weakness of the wide receiver room. The main option on offense was tight end Travis Kelce, who should remain the main option this season, but the presence of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown should help lessen the load on him in the later stages of his career.

If the Chiefs' wide receiver group is even just marginally better, it will be a scary thing for the NFL. Kansas City was able to win it all despite the lack of weapons on the outside. Rashee Rice flashed talent, but he has had an offseason filled with turmoil. Brown once put up 1,008 yards in a season with the Baltimore Ravens in 2021, and still showed his ability with the Arizona Cardinals, despite a bad situation with Kyler Murray going through injuries over his two seasons there.

Andy Reid seems optimistic regarding the connection that Mahomes and Brown already have which should be strengthened by the time the regular season comes around.

“As a coach, you look for the communication,” Andy Reid said, via Nate Taylor of The Athletic. “They've got a good connection. Once Patrick knows what Hollywood's thinking, then that's a good thing.”

Marquise Brown's 2024 outlook with the Chiefs

Brown is in an enviable position going into this season. He is likely the top wide receiver on the Chiefs' depth chart, and a good season catching passes from Mahomes could have him in a good position to get a solid deal in free agency next offseason.

Reid will undoubtedly have a plan for him, as he always does with the weapons he has at his disposal each season. On paper, the weapons are upgraded from the 2023 season, and that could go a long way towards helping the Chiefs pull of a third straight Super Bowl victory, which is unheard of in this era.. It will be interesting to see how Brown fares in arguably the best situation he has been in to this point in his career.
