The Kansas City Chiefs are pleased to have Chris Jones back in their long-term picture. Jones is the most important player in the Chiefs' front seven on defense. Kansas City inked him to a five-year, $158.75 million contract extension right before free agency. Chris Jones is apparently pleased with his situation.

The superstar defensive tackle spoke with the media today. He gave the following answer when asked about how he feels about his future with the Chiefs.

“I’m happy to be here. Happy to be back with Kansas City. Happy to be with the organization…” Jones said, per Aaron Ladd on X/Twitter.

Everyone in Chiefs Nation is glad to have Jones locked up for the foreseeable future. He entered the 2023 season in a contract dispute with the team and held out into the regular season. The team's Week 1 loss against the Detroit Lions arguably gave Jones leverage, allowing him to receive a lucrative one-year contract. That passed the buck to this offseason, when negotiations resumed and a deal was agreed to.

Jones is a force multiplier for Kansas City's defense. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo loves to disguise coverages and send exotic blitz packages at his opponents. This can be tough to handle just by itself, but it is even more difficult when it forces offenses to leave Chris Jones in a one-on-one situation.

Chris Jones is one of the most disruptive interior defenders in the NFL. He has been collapsing pockets at a high level since 2017. In fact, Jones has logged 73.5 sacks during that stretch, eclipsing six sacks every single season.

Chris Jones will be an important part of Kansas City's defense during a pivotal 2024 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs have won the Super Bowl two years in a row. This year, they will try to become the first team in NFL history to win the Lombardi Trophy three times in a row.

The Chiefs are used to this kind of pressure, as well as being the biggest target in the NFL. Kansas City always gets their opponent's best shot each week, but they have learned how to consistently come out on top.

They are returning many of their core pieces who have been important players the past two seasons. The team also added a ton of talent this offseason, including a pair of speedsters at wide receiver. Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy both boast incredibly fast 40-yard dash times, which could signal the return of the deep passing offense for the Chiefs.

If the Chiefs are able to recapture some portion of their success from the Tyreek Hill days, paired with the rest of their current strengths, they could become an unstoppable force.

Kansas City's biggest hurdle this season could end up being their irregular schedule. The NFL is hungry for more Chiefs in primetime games, and the schedule makers delivered on that hunger in a big way.

The Chiefs play at least one game on every day of the week except for Tuesday in 2024. They will play against the Raiders on Black Friday and against the Steelers on Christmas Day.

Kansas City just needs to focus on making the playoffs during the regular season. Once you get into the postseason, anything can happen.
