Chino Hills got off to a bad start this season with a 4-6 record. It seemed that Ball's prediction was about to come true. Yet midway, the team was able to turn it around. They finished the season with an impressive 25-11 record.

Now, they have a chance to win the state title after beating St. John Bosco (25-8).

Per Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times, Ofure Ujadughele, who scored 20 points in the win, said that everyone lost hope in the team when Ball left:

“Everybody doubted us with LaMelo leaving,” said Ofure Ujadughele. “No one believed in us. We proved them wrong.”

Along with Ujadughel, another player who has stepped up after Ball left was none other than his cousin Andre Ball. In the win against St. John Bosco, he scored 32 points and nailed 5-of-7 shots from 3-point distance. 6'9″ Onyeka Okongwu, who was averaging 28.6 points per game also contributed to the win with 12 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks.

In a different article by Sondheimer for the LA Times, Chino Hills coach Dennis Latimore spoke out against LaVar Ball who wanted to add more players to his team. Latimore didn't agree and was the probable reason for the falling out between the two:

“It was really nothing for me,” Latimore says. “I came in and my mission was to coach the team. I wasn't going to have a parent tell me what to do. Period. Or I wasn't going to take the job. I had that conversation with the administration. He left and moved on. Guys are united and we're having a lot of fun.”
