Chris Bosh was part of a lot of headlines recently as the Miami Heat officially waived him from their roster and also announced that they will retire his jersey number. Following two blood clot scares, the 33-year-old was not cleared by doctors to play competitive basketball, and that he will have to continue taking blood thinners.

Although the ending with the franchise was not ideal, Bosh still sent a heartfelt message to the whole organization, and thanked them for all the wonderful memories he had in South Beach in his seven-year stay. He published the letter on his website, chrisbosh.com, and gave a special shoutout to his family and Heat supporters for being with him through all the ups and downs.

Here are some excerpts from his piece:

“Wow, what a ride! I've been reflecting on my time in this great city and want to thank you for being a constant during a period of change in my life. I've experienced a few Finals appearances, a couple of championships, several weddings (including my own), the birth of four kids, bonding with an entire community and a ton of ups and downs along the way.

“It was scary leaving Toronto, a place where people really loved and supported me, and I wasn't sure if that great feeling would follow me. When I arrived in Miami, I was just hoping for glory and mention amongst the immortals of basketball. What I got was so much more.”

After spending his first seven seasons in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors, Bosh decided to bring his talents to South Beach to form the Heat's “Big 3” alongside LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. Their partnership brought two championships to the franchise, and he established himself as one of the best big men in the game who knows how to win.

Bosh will go down as one of the best players in franchise history and truly deserves to be honored by the team. He made it clear before that he is not giving up on playing in the NBA yet, but for now, it remains to be seen if he can be cleared by doctors, and if a team will gamble on his services in the future.

Congratulations on a stellar career, Chris!
