Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers was the latest to give his two cents worth regarding to the recent news involving the health of former NBA commissioner David Stern.

According to multiple reports, Stern recently underwent emergency brain surgery after suffering a brain hemorrhage on Thursday. Rivers was one with the rest of the basketball world in having trouble processing this unfortunate development.

“Obviously, he’s meant a lot to the league and to me but I think we should just wait,” Rivers said via Clippers insider Andrew Greif. “Obviously, it was awful when you heard the news. Just awful news.”

We all hope commission Stern recovers from this as soon as possible, with no adverse effect on his overall health moving forward. There should be more updates on this story soon, and we will be sure to pass along any new information as they come along.

As for Rivers, he and Stern share a bit of history together, with the latter being appointed as the league's commission in the very same year (1984) Rivers was drafted in the NBA. Rivers spent 12 seasons in the league before retiring in 1996, and during this entire span, Stern was the league commissioner.

Rivers then started his coaching career in the 1999-2000 season, and it was only after 14 years that Stern would finally step down as the NBA commissioner. To say that Rivers has grown accustomed to having Stern around would be an understatement, so it is completely understandable why he is so affected by this recent tragedy.
