The L.A. Clippers made a splash at the trade deadline with the acquisition of center Ivica Zubac from the Los Angeles Lakers. It appears guard Lou Williams may have had a hand in the deal.

Williams had heard about the reported interest in Zubac. According to Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints, he highly recommended the young center to head coach Doc Rivers:

Doc Rivers says Lou Williams was big on getting Ivica Zubac from the Lakers – “If we can get him, go get him.”

It is easy to see where Williams' admiration for Zubac stems from. They had been former teammates on the Lakers for two seasons. It is clear that Zubac made quite an impression on Williams prior to the latter's departure. Both players have now been reunited albeit in the same city.

There is still plenty of speculation regarding the reasoning behind why the Lakers' decision to part ways with Zubac. Despite a slow start to the season, he had started to become their most consistent big down low. However, it appears their dire need of shooting outweighed Zubac's potential. As a result, the Clippers ended up with a starting-caliber center moving forward.

Zubac has been a seamless fit thus far in his first three games with the Clippers. Williams has now become the central part of the offense amidst all the recent changes to the roster. His rapport with Zubac should continue to pay huge dividends for this team going into the final stretch of the season.
