The University of Texas hosts Oklahoma State in a big-12 battle on Saturday afternoon. It's time to continue our college basketball odds series with an Oklahoma State-Texas prediction and pick.

Oklahoma State comes into this game 10-7 on the season. They are fresh off of a win against TCU but before that, upset No. 1 Baylor back on Jan. 15. That would be their biggest win in years and it couldn't have come at a better time. If the Cowboys can get a streak going then they can find themselves into the top-25 rankings sooner than later. Texas is ranked No. 13 on the year and is 13-5 on the season. They are coming off an upset loss to Kansas State and also lost to Iowa State the game prior. They have lost two in a row and need to get back on track.

Why Oklahoma State Could Cover The Spread

This might sound obvious, but the Cowboys need to find a way to score a lot of points if they are going to cover this spread. Texas contains one of the top defensive teams in the nation, holding opponents to just 55 points per game. That is a very good number considering many teams score in the 70-80 range on any given night. These two teams actually met a few weeks ago with OSU coming out on top in the upset win. If they are to win again, it would also be considered an upset because it will be on the road. Texas is 11-1 at home so this will make for a tough game for OSU. They must contain forward Timmy Allen who leads the Longhorns in scoring with 11.7 points per game.

Why Texas Could Cover The Spread

Even though they are coming off two consecutive losses, Texas still has a good chance of covering this spread. But this will not be easy. It's a large enough spread to where the Longhorns will need to be controlling this game late in the second half. They can not let OSU keep this close, or else they will not cover. OSU won the last meeting at home, so we will need to see something different from Texas in this one if they are going to win by at least eight points.

The metrics and analytics and all that jazz favor the Longhorns in this game and that is probably the right call. They are dominant and home and contain a bunch of weapons and an elite defense. Texas just has to put it all together again which they haven't done the last two games. They must contain OSU guard Bryce Williams and if they do, they should be able to win by a large amount.

Final Oklahoma State-Texas Prediction & Pick

This is not an easy decision because of these two teams' recent games. It actually seems like OSU is on the right path to cover this spread, so that is who I am going to choose. They just upset the top team in the country and also beat a solid team last time out. Take OSU to cover this spread even though Texas could very well win it. I can't see Texas winning this game by nine points with their last two games resulting in a loss.
