No one wants Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck to be injured, but there is one positive that is coming away from it, as backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett is getting a better grasp on the offense.

Brissett has been taking all the first-team reps and Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni has seen the improvements that Brissett has made already during training camp.

“I think any time a guy gets reps, a lot of reps, that’s huge for us as a team,” Sirianni said via Kyle Neddenriep of the Indianapolis Star. “Obviously, yeah, you want Andrew out there, but when a guy’s getting some reps and getting the timing down with the receivers, the snap count and cadence, and the calls down with the center and the offensive line, that’s invaluable.”

“What I think he’s really done is gain the trust of everybody in the offensive huddle. They have confidence in him that he’s going to get the job done.”

Brissett has already been a starter for the Colts once before. In 2017, he started 15 games when Luck was out with injury and he played pretty well given the circumstances. All signs still point towards Luck overcoming his calf injury and being ready for the start of the season, but if there are setbacks and he can't be ready, all this training during camp will pay off.

Brissett isn't as good Luck, but he is still a solid quarterback that can run the offense and the team should be very confident putting him under center if they have to.
