Former Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron has signed a two-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts, the team announced on Monday. ESPN's Adam Schefter notes that the deal has a maximum value of $15 million based on incentives and bonuses.

The 24-year-old was selected by Detroit with the 10th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft after a dominant college career at North Carolina. In his four years with the franchise, he averaged 47 receptions, 518 yards, and three touchdowns per season.

Assuming Andrew Luck is able to return for the 2018 campaign, he'll have two viable tight ends in Ebron and Jack Doyle, who made 80 receptions for Indianapolis this past season.

The Lions initially searched for a trade partner for Ebron, and when they were unable to find one, he was released. The fifth-year option of his rookie contract would've been worth over $8 million, not exactly a figure that he's played up to at this point in his career.

In addition to the Colts, Ebron met with the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots were rumored to have interest.

After a stellar 2016 season where he emerged as legitimate weapon for the Lions, Ebron regressed in 2017 while making just nine starts. He finished the year with 53 catches for 574 yards and four touchdowns.

In addition to Doyle and Ebron, the Colts have T.Y. Hilton and new free agent signing Kamar Aiken headlining at wide receiver. The franchise lost wideout Donte Moncrief to the AFC South rival Jacksonville Jaguars when free agency began earlier this month.
