As the Indianapolis Colts await the return of the face of the franchise in Andrew Luck, the team has acquired Jacoby Brissett from the New England Patriots, and it appears he could see some time if he impresses the coaching staff.

According to head coach Chuck Pagano, Brissett wasn't acquired to simply sit back and be an insurance policy for Scott Tolzien. Brissett will have the chance to compete for the starting job while Luck is on the mend, via ESPN's Mike Wells.

“That’s why we brought him here,” coach Chuck Pagano said. “He’s no different than anybody else. He’ll have an opportunity to compete. Scott’s the starter and he has to produce, everybody has to produce.”

Brissett recently grabbed the attention of teams around the league in need of help at the quarterback position after an impressive performance during the NFL preseason for the Patriots. The 24-year-old put on a show against the New York Giants in which he was the only quarterback for New England to see the field.

The NC State product threw for 341 yards, four touchdowns, and only one interception. Brissett failed to lead the Patriots to victory in a shootout which ended with the Giants coming out on top, 40-38.

Although Brissett didn't win that preseason game, he obviously caught the eye of the Colts who were in desperate need to bolster the quarterback position with all the uncertainty about Luck's status as the regular season draws near.

Whether Brissett can make a strong case to start Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams remains to be seen. At this point, it is Tolzien's job to lose until Luck returns.
