The Indianapolis Colts made a huge move by trading for Carson Wentz last offseason. They were hoping to tap into the potential he once flashed after a miserable end to his stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. After having a rebound season, he was traded to the Washington Commanders early in the offseason. What went wrong?

According to The Athletic's Zak Keefer, Wentz overstayed his welcome very quickly. His issues exacerbated over the course of the season, which ended in a miserable fashion when the Colts lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Wentz recorded two turnovers while passing for just one touchdown against the worst team in the league, which cost them their shot at the playoffs.

As for the Colts, the issues with Wentz stretched back to before the season began, one source said, and over the course of the year, some grew frustrated at what they deemed a lack of leadership, a resistance to hard coaching and a reckless style of play, which had a role in several close losses this year.

Issues like these are barely tolerated when elite quarterbacks show them. A quarterback as iffy as Wentz has absolutely no room to behave like this. Although he had a solid season on the field, it makes total sense for the Colts to ditch him. He is very replaceable and has proven to still be wildly bad too often.

Wentz's poor mentality with the Colts, which he reportedly showed with the Philadelphia Eagles during their Super Bowl run, will earn him no favors with the Commanders.
