Understandably so, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott did not immediately speak about the sudden passing of his brother Jace, who passed away at the age of 31 back in April.
However, Prescott broke his silence on the matter during a virtual press conference for Cowboys reporters on Wednesday while sharing some very emotional thoughts about the passing of his late brother.
“He meant a lot to my family, meant a lot to me,” the Cowboys star said on Wednesday, via PopCulture.com. “He's part of the reason I am a quarterback. When I was a little kid, he's the reason that I first started throwing the football. It's been a tough year. It's been a tough year for me personally. It's been a tough year for my family. It's been a tough year for this country and this world, obviously. So, it's all been tough.”
While the majority of the offseason headlines surrounding Prescott were highlighted by a new contract with the Cowboys that never came, the veteran signal-caller was obviously dealing with something much more than football. Out of the spotlight for the better part of the offseason, it is no surprise that Dak Prescott ultimately broke his silence with the Cowboys only recently reporting to the team facility.
Prescott was franchise tagged by the Cowboys and will enter the upcoming 2020 season as an impending free agent in 2021.
The news of Jace's death originally surfaced midway through the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft while the Cowboys promptly issued a formal statement only minutes later. Jace was the middle of three Prescott brothers with the now 27-year-old Dak serving as the youngest of the trio.
