Current Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is looking far ahead into the future.

Going on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Prescott has repeated what he has said numerous times in the past: he wants to stay with the Cowboys for the entirety of his career.

“I’m very optimistic,” Prescott said. “That’s business, and there’s all kind of avenues in business of why it might not get worked out. I’m very confident that I’ll be a Cowboy, and as I’ve said before, I plan to be a Cowboy for the rest of my career. So there’s no worries when it goes into that. There’s no thoughts that I allow to distract me. This is the place to be. As I talk about the team and how exciting this offense can be with the new coaching staff, how great this defense is going to be, and this team, in general. This is the place to be, and I’m excited to be a Cowboy more importantly.”

While this is a good way to think for the young quarterback, it may not be the smartest thing to say in public. By acknowledging his allegiance to the Cowboys it may make owner Jerry Jones think that he has the quarterback locked down no matter what.

On the contrary though, Prescott played hardball this summer — which resulted in no new contract for the fifth-year pro. He is still locked up through the franchise tag this season, but the Cowboys are running out of time to sign him to a long-term deal.

Moreover, with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes signing a $500 million extension, the market has gone up again. Now, Dak Prescott is not at the level of Mahomes, but the market-changing deal could have an impact on the continued negotiations between the two sides.

Only time will tell whether Prescott sticks around in Dallas or changes his mind on wanting to spend his entire career with the Cowboys.
