There are a good number of people down on the Dallas Cowboys’ receiving corps for this season. That group already didn’t look too impressive last season, and now they’ll be without No. 1 receiver Dez Bryant after he was cut earlier this offseason. But as it turns out, all those doubts are helping fuel a group that’s eager to shock the world.

“I'm excited to be in a group of guys who are hungry and want to prove the world wrong,” free-agent signee Deonte Thompson said, per Kate Hairopolous of the Dallas Morning News. “I don't really have too much social media stuff, so I barely hear it, but we know what they say. But we'll be having this discussion in November, and it will be totally different.”

The Cowboys are looking at a significantly different receiving corps for this season. They’ve brought in the likes of Thompson, Allen Hurns, and Tavon Austin in free agency, and also drafted Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson. Cole Beasley and Terrance Williams are the notable holders from last year, but even they aren’t coming off the best season in 2017.

There doesn’t appear to be a clear-cut No. 1-type receiver in that group, which could prove to be a challenge for quarterback Dak Prescott to overcome. But Hurns, who has shown the most ability to take on that role as Prescott’s top target, believes that having so many guys with something to prove will help their chances of sharing the heavy burden in the passing game this season.
