The Dallas Cowboys were in desperate need to add more weapons on their offense this offseason. One of their draft picks this year in Tony Pollard is expected to be a threat in multiple facets of their team.

Although Pollard was used in multiple areas of the game at Memphis, the Cowboys are nixing the notion that Pollard will be used as just a gadget guy.

Dallas sees more than just a “gadget guy” role for their fourth-round pick. The Cowboys running backs coach explained what their intentions for Pollard are in the upcoming season.

“I know people think he’s going to be this gadget guy,” Cowboys running backs coach Gary Brown said. “He’s more than that. He’s bigger than what you think he is and he runs powerful for a guy you think is a gadget guy. I think he can do all our runs and more.”

It sounds like the Cowboys are ready for Pollard to be the immediate backup to Ezekiel Elliott in 2019. They're likely hoping they can keep Elliott fresh this way.

Furthermore, Dallas has tried to find a “change of pace” back to relieve Elliott on some plays. They've tried Lance Dunbar, Rod Smith, and even Tavon Austin with no fruitful results.

At 6-foot, 208-ish pounds, Pollard can bring a lot to the franchise. He can be a weapon on offense, as well as being a returner on special teams.

Finding someone as versatile as Pollard in the fourth-round could benefit the Cowboys greatly.

Although, the most important part is Pollard being able to handle a few carries a game to allow Elliott to remain healthy in 2019.
