The safety position is a major point of concern for the Dallas Cowboys, who certainly could use a trade to address the issue. But if the team’s fans are waiting for an update with regards to any possible transaction that would get the team six-time Pro Bowler and current Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas, then they’ll have to keep on waiting.

Dallas executive vice president Stephen Jones spoke during the Kickoff Luncheon on Wednesday and admitted that the Cowboys are looking for ways to shore up the safety position, per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.

Jones also stated that the Cowboys have not had a discussion with the Seahawks lately. In other words, any talks about an Earl Thomas trade has been shelved for the meantime, likely because Dallas has “found the Seahawks’ asking price too high,” adds Williams.

Thomas is still in the midst of his holdout as he seeks to either secure a long-term deal from the Seahawks or get his wish to be traded.

Thomas has been consistently linked to the Cowboys ever since he told Dallas head coach Jason Garrett to “come get me” after a game last December.

For now, Dallas will have to deal with a banged-up group of safeties with the likes of Xavier Woods and Kavon Frazier dealing with injuries. Starting safety Jeff Heath, meanwhile, has sustained a couple of health issues of his own this offseason.

Adding Thomas would greatly stabilize Dallas’ secondary, but it remains to be seen whether that’s going to happen anytime soon.
