Just as expected, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys were unable to agree upon a new contract ahead of Wednesday's deadline. While most fans are disappointed in the team failing to ink Prescott long term, Dez Bryant defended the Cowboys' decision to move forward as is.

The last time that Bryant logged a snap in the NFL, he was catching passes from Prescott. Therefore, it remains to be seen if the former All-Pro wideout believes Prescott should be paid or not. Regardless of where he stands on the matter, he believes the Cowboys are in the driver seat in contract discussions.

Throughout the years, Dallas has never hesitated to sign their quarterback long term when they've proven to be a franchise quarterback. However, when it has come to getting a deal done with Prescott, the Cowboys have been hesitant to finalize a contract.

In his first four seasons in the NFL, Prescott has continually gotten better under center. The former fourth-round pick contributed a career-best 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 2019. Despite his numbers reflecting that of an elite quarterback, the Cowboys are reluctant to pay him as such.

Seeing that Carson Wentz and Jared Goff received extensions, Prescott has been asking for the same since before last season. And with how the quarterback market continues to expand, Prescott wants a reasonable deal.

Due to not getting a new deal in place, Prescott is going to be playing under the franchise tag in 2020. Even though Prescott has proven he can deliver when he bets on himself, Bryant thinks Dallas has the upper hand right now.
