Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott returned to the team on Monday after serving his six-game suspension mandated by the league.
It didn't take long for numerous questions about the topic to be tossed to Elliott's way. He immediately shut down the conversation and any chance of it lingering on, according to Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News.
“I’m not really going to talk about it,” Elliott said. “It’s behind me. I’m just trying to start a new page, a new chapter. I’m going to thank this Cowboys organization for being behind me. Thank my family, my team and my friends for just supporting me through that time and especially the Cowboys fans who have stuck by me through this tough time and haven’t lost faith in me.
“But I’m not talking about it anymore. This is going to be the last time you hear me speak about it, so please don’t even ask me about it.”
Now that Elliott has served the entire lengthy suspension, he is hoping to make it a thing of the past that doesn't hover overhead as his NFL career continues. He has shifted his sole focus to playing football rather than worrying about any possible legal matters getting in the way again.
What helps this endeavor is the fact that the Cowboys are in the thick of the playoff picture heading into the final two weeks of the season. They have an outside chance of claiming a Wild Card spot.
Elliott is expected to quickly jump back into the mix as a big part of the offensive game plan with a heavy workload in the running game. Through his first two seasons, he has established himself as one of the premier running backs in the game while leading the Cowboys' potent attack.
