The Dallas Cowboys will be without star running back Ezekiel Elliott for the next six games. The 22-year-old's emergency injunction has been denied resulting in his suspension being reinstated, according to NFL.com.

The U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday denied Ezekiel Elliott's and the NFLPA's request for an emergency injunction pending appeal in Elliott's case.

The court's ruling allows the NFL to re-suspend Elliott for six games, per NFL Network's legal analyst Gabe Feldman. The court says the appeal will be heard on an expedited appeal.

With Elliott playing at a high level once again this season, the loss of the Pro Bowler is a devastating blow for the Cowboys as they try to make their way back into the playoffs. Dallas won't see the return of Elliott in the backfield until Christmas Eve when America's Team takes on Russell Wilson's Seattle Seahawks, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Now that Elliott's suspension has been reinstated, the Cowboys will be forced to turn to Alfred Morris and Darren McFadden to shoulder the load in the backfield. Although both players are formidable backups that have been Pro Bowl-caliber backs for other teams in the past, there's no replacing Elliott who may be the best player in the NFL at his position.

In eight games with the Cowboys this season, Elliott has rushed for 783 yards and seven touchdowns. The Ohio State product has also been a force as a receiver with 19 receptions for 210 yards and two touchdowns.
