The Dallas Cowboys have a few offensive players that are in need of new contracts. Aside from the players, the Cowboys also have to make a decision on Jason Garrett.

For the Cowboys to retain Garrett, the front office wants Dallas to take the “next step” under Garrett in 2019. That isn't essentially reassuring if you're Garrett in this situation. Stephen Jones let it be known how he felt about the future of Garrett and the Cowboys.

“I think we’ve had some really solid football teams,” Stephen Jones said. “I’ve never seen this team not play hard for him, even in tough situations. When we didn’t have Zeke [Elliott] for six games a couple of seasons ago, and the season was tough. I’ve always seen his teams play hard for Jason all the way to the end, even when we knew in some cases we were out of it. The guys respond well to him. They play hard for him. We’ve got to take the next step. But I do feel really good that Jason is the right guy for this job.”

Garrett has been the head coach of the Cowboys since 2010. Since then, Garrett has three seasons with double-digit wins, and he has won two playoff games including last year, where Dallas finished with a record of 10-6 and won their NFC Wild Card bout against the Seattle Seahawks. Making it further in the playoffs is the next step for the Cowboys after a step forward in 2018.

There have been rumors that Dallas could target Sean Payton if Garrett can't deliver positive results in 2019. Although, it's tough to believe that Payton leaves his current situation with the New Orleans Saints.

Nevertheless, if the Cowboys can make a deep playoff run in 2019, Garrett likely receives another extension to remain the head coach of Jerry Jones' team.
