Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has made it clear that he continues to see Dak Prescott as the team’s long-term quarterback despite two turnovers in their 28-14 defeat to the Tennessee Titans on Monday night.

“Listen, Dak is the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday. “He's young and he's going to get extended.”

Prescott’s rookie contract runs through 2019, but the Cowboys can begin negotiations on an extension after this season.

Prescott broke onto the scene in 2016 with a terrific rookie season. He had 3,667 yards with 23 touchdowns and just four interceptions to lead the Cowboys to a 13-3 record.

However, he has not played quite up to that level in the past two years. Through eight games this season, he has thrown for 1,660 yards with 10 touchdown passes and five interceptions. He has also lost four fumbles and been sacked 28 times.

Prescott has often been criticized this season for his part in the Cowboys offense's struggles. But despite question marks about Prescott’s play, Jones has remained consistent in his support of his quarterback, which is once again evident in his latest comment.

Jones did not specify what the size of Prescott’s extension will likely be. Given his performance in recent years, Prescott has not earned a contract that would make him among the highest paid quarterbacks in the league. But because of Jones’ steadfast support of Prescott, it can’t be ruled out that he hands his quarterback a contract significantly more than he’s worth.
