The Dallas Cowboys have been linked to superstar safety Earl Thomas for quite some time now. So when the defensive back was released by the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, rumors started swirling.

And according to Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Twitter, Dallas owner Jerry Jones has not closed the door on signing him yet.

This was not really Jones coming out and explicitly saying that the team is hunting Thomas. Really all he did here was shoot down a reporter for claiming the team has moved on.

While this could mean a few things, it certainly sounds like the team is still being active in trying to obtain the safety.

Not long ago, the Cowboys were heavily linked to superstar safety Jamal Adams as well. The New York Jets ended up trading him to the Seattle Seahawks when they were offered a King's Ransom though.

This is almost like a second chance for Dallas. They could still get a superstar safety that they have been pining after for a while. And Thomas would certainly help bolster the defense.

While Thomas is not as productive as he once was, the three-time first-team All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler can still improve a secondary.

In 2019, he recorded just 49 tackles and four pass deflections. He still managed two interceptions and had the first two sacks of his career though.

However, Thomas was released from the Ravens on Sunday, following an altercation with teammate Chuck Clark during practice.

Yes, this raises some new questions about the safety. But don't be surprised if a lot of teams decide to overlook that and try to bring the defensive back in anyways.

The Cowboys are certainly a team that could use Thomas' services. They've already been linked to him in the past, and now it appears Jones is not giving up on getting him again just yet.
