Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson were the poster for a perfect NFL marriage gone. The two Dallas Cowboys figures went from winning the Super Bowl together in 1992 and 1993 to a bitter divorce that left their once sturdy friendship in shambles.

But now it appears that the longtime Cowboys owner might have finally softened his heart towards how he viewed how it all ended with Johnson. Jerry Jones was emotional when he rehashed Dallas' famed nineties run with Johnson at the helm, even claiming that it was his fault that things got messed up between the two.

“He’s a great coach and I’m proud to have him as a friend, and proud to have the times that we — we just had a great experience,” the Cowboys owner said.

Jones then appeared to be choking back tears as he said it was his own fault that things didn’t end better with Johnson. “I’ve never been able to know why I f–ked it up.”

Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones were famously teammates way back during their days at Arkansas. The move made by Jones to tab his old buddy Johnson as the Cowboy's head coach spurred arguably their most dominant era in franchise history. But while they'll always have the success from those days to look back to, Jones firmly believes their parting cut their dynasty short when it was only just beginning.
