Dak Prescott has a new tattoo, and it’s something to behold. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback got his entire right leg tattooed in a grueling and painful process that took 11 hours and required him to be sedated. The process was so intense, that Prescott decided that he wouldn’t tell his coach Mike McCarthy and Jerry Jones — the man paying him $40 million a year — about it until after it was over.

Prescott told The Fort-Worth Star-Telegram that he didn’t tell his owner or head coach about the massive tattoo before he got it.

“I wasn’t going to tell [Mike McCarthy and Jerry Jones] but I let them know after,” Prescott told the paper. “When I saw Mike the next day and my leg was big, he was ‘what (happened to you).’”

And it was a reporter from the Star-Telegram that informed Jerry Jones that his QB was sedated for hours.

“I certainly didn’t know he was under for 10 hours,” Jones told the reporter. “Just so you’re clear, I had no idea about tattoos. I better get up to date on it. I had no idea that required that kind of sedation of any tattoo.”

When asked for his official comment, the Cowboys owner initially said he had none before adding, “My comment is it explains to me why I don’t do tattoos.”

This type of massive tattoo and the process of being sedated to do it in one sitting — under the supervision of a medical professional — is part of a growing celebrity trend of “expansive and expensive tattoos for celebrities.” Prescott’s teammates Tony Pollard and CeeDee Lamb went through similar processes this offseason.

As for the Dak Prescott tattoo, the Star-Telegram explains the images’ significance, reporting, “There is a picture of the moose is a nod to his brother, Jace, who died by suicide in 2020. The is photo of a Pegasus honors his mother, Peggy, who passed away from cancer in 2013. There are images of a Black Mamba for Kobe Bryant, a Jumpman logo for Michael Jordan and a picture of Muhammad Ali. The massive tattoo also features Daffy Duck doing Dak’s signature touchdown celebration, the Dallas’ skyline and a sign from the Pine Creek Estates mobile home park in Louisiana where Prescott grew up.”
