The Dallas Cowboys seemingly enter every NFL season with Super Bowl title hopes. It comes with the territory of a franchise that dominated the NFL in the 1990s, winning three Super Bowls and giving the fans a taste of ultimate glory. Cowboys fans still seek that title-winning euphoria to this day and have a great team this season, currently led by quarterback Dak Prescott. Well, former Dallas head coach Jimmy Johnson, who won two titles with the franchise in the '90s, dropped a truth bomb on what the team needs to get to the promised land with Prescott under center during an appearance on Fox Sports The ‘Herd with Colin Cowherd.

“His No. 1 strength is he is a great leader for that football team,” Johnson said this week on Fox Sports’ The Herd. “He can win you a championship if you got really good players around him. They’ve had some injuries with the running game. They’re not running the football as well they did before Dak got injured. When they’re running the football, those play-action passes, Dak is really good. … But when he’s got to drop back and start reading the whole field and make decisions about where he’s throwing the football, and the defense isn’t slowing down for the run … he’s not near as good. He can win you a championship, but you better get the running game back.”

This is an interesting take from former Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson. Johnson feels that Dak Prescott has the natural qualities of a leader, something the Dallas legend believes is Prescott's greatest strength.

However, Johnson also feels that Prescott has some limitations to his game, such as when the Cowboys aren't running the ball as well. When the veteran signal-caller is forced to drop back and read defenses without the support of a strong running game, Johnson feels that Prescott isn't as good.

To be fair, this could be said about most of the quarterback sin the NFL. However, Johnson knows a thing or two about taking the Cowboys to the promised land.

In fact, one of the key strengths of Johnson's two Super Bowl-winning Dallas teams was their running game, led by Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith. Smith's incredible ability made it so that Troy Aikman didn't have to do too much for Dallas to win.

That's what Johnson is saying here about Prescott, and to some degree, Ezekiel Elliott. No one is comparing Elliott to Smith, but if the star halfback can get back to running downhill and picking up over 100 yards rushing per game, like he did earlier this year and in past seasons, the Cowboys, and Prescott, will be in much better shape.

If the Cowboys start to do that, then Jimmy Johnson feels they have a shot at a title with Dak Prescott as their quarterback.
