The Dallas Cowboys were fully expecting to have a deal with defensive end Randy Gregory completed this offseason, but in a last-minute change of heart, Gregory bolted for Denver. Well, with Cowboys fans up in arms after getting burnt by the 29-year-old, Gregory's latest social media activity seems to shine some light on his decision to join the Broncos. Gregory liked a tweet from Patrik Walker, indicating that the Cowboys' offer simply didn't match up to that of other teams.
Walker revealed that Gregory was willing to take less money to re-sign with the Cowboys, but Dallas got greedy in its efforts to bring him back on a discount. After the gap in salary reached the point of roughly $4-$5 million between Dallas and opposing offers, Gregory opted to secure the bag and sign with the Broncos.
If this is accurate and the Cowboys did try to “get cute” with their offer to Gregory, fans in Dallas have no reason to be upset with the 29-year-old. Rather, Jerry Jones and Co. should shoulder the blame for the loss of Gregory, after their lowball offers proved insufficient, even for a player who was willing to join on a bargain deal.
Gregory was a beast in the trenches for the Cowboys last year, and the team will struggle to find a replacement quite as dominant as he was. Last season, Gregory featured in 12 games, recording 6.0 sacks and 17 QB hits. The defensive end's social media activity suggests that Walker's reports are accurate, and that the value simply wasn't there in the offer from the Cowboys.
