Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard was forced to exit the Divisional Round game against the 49ers early after suffering an ankle injury. The official diagnosis determined Pollard sustained a high-ankle sprain in the loss to the Niners, and now the running back, who could hit free agency this offseason, has undergone surgery on his ankle. According to Todd Archer of ESPN, Pollard is expected to be back in action in time for training camp after undergoing the procedure on his ankle.

“Tony Pollard underwent surgery Tuesday on a broken left fibula and high ankle sprain he suffered in the Cowboys’ divisional round playoff loss to San Francisco, per source. Should be full strength well before training camp. Set to be an unrestricted free agent in March.”
The Cowboys are rumored to be considering applying the franchise tag on Pollard in order to keep him in Dallas for one more season before making a decision on a long-term contract. Tagging Pollard would cost around $10 million, and the Cowboys already have Ezekiel Elliott under contract, due to carry a cap hit worth more than $16 million.
Pollard enjoyed a breakout season in 2022, and Cowboys fans were heartbroken to see him carted to the locker room during the Divisional Round loss against the 49ers. This season, Pollard rushed for 1,007 yards on 193 carries, scoring 13 total touchdowns in what was his best campaign to date.
While the ankle injury was a big blow for the Cowboys, it's encouraging to see he should be fine for training camp and should have no issues being ready for next year's season opener.
