The Dallas Cowboys were rumored to have been interested in New York Jets safety back at the trade deadline in October. Now, it appears they are preparing to pursue him again.

According to Cowboys insider Mike Fisher, Dallas has been discussing a potential Adams trade in-house. Fisher notes that the Cowboys have not yet contacted the Jets.

This comes shortly after Jets general manager Joe Douglas said that New York wants to “keep Jamal here for a very long time” and that the Jets would connect with Adams on contract extension talks after the NFL Draft.

It should also be noted that Jane Slater of NFL Network said that a source told her that “it's all just rumors and there have not been any talks on that front.”

Adams is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he played 14 games and racked up 75 tackles, 6.5 sacks, an interception, a couple of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, seven passes defended and a pair of defensive touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by New York with the sixth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

It didn't take Adams long to establish himself as one of the league's top upcoming defensive stars, registering 83 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and six passes defended during his rookie year.

The following season, Adams showed significant improvement, rattling off 115 tackles, 3.5 sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 12 passes defended, earning his first trip to the Pro Bowl.

Dallas is in need of help at the safety position, so its apparent interest in Adams is hardly surprising.

The Cowboys went just 8-8 and missed the playoffs this past year.
