One of the fiercest debates in sports is who is better between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Some favor the ridiculous athletic ability of Ronaldo. Some prefer the intangibles of Messi.

But Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard seems to be siding with Ronaldo, placing a rather prestigious label on the Juventus superstar.

According to Sky Sports, Lingard feels that Ronaldo is the Michael Jordan of soccer:

“I have to say Cristiano Ronaldo,” Lingard said when asked which soccer player most accurately compares to Jordan. “Everything he has achieved in his career. He has been at plenty of clubs and won many trophies. I believe he is a real icon of football, the Michael Jordan of football.”

A five-time Balon d'Or award winner and five-time Champions League champion, Cristiano Ronaldo has certainly racked up his fair share of accomplishments since entering the professional ranks back in 2002.

The 35-year-old began his pro career with Sporting CP in Portugal, spending one year there before linking up with Manchester United. Ronaldo spent six seasons with Man U before ultimately joining Real Madrid in 2009.

That was when Ronaldo's career truly broke out, as he logged three 40-plus goal campaigns and won four Champions League titles throughout his nine-year stint with the club.

Cristiano Ronaldo, a native of Portugal, left Real Madrid for Juventus in 2018. While he no longer appears to be the same dominant force from several years ago, remains one of the best players in the sport and one of the most iconic athletes in world history.
