Paulo Dybala edged his Juventus teammate Cristiano Ronaldo to walk away with the Serie A Player of the Year award. The 26-year-old, who tallied 11 goals and 11 assists this season, was announced as the winner of the annual prize on Tuesday, as the Juventus star failed to repeat after winning the lauded award in his first year at Allianz Stadium.

Juventus is coming off a ninth straight Scudetto, dominating Italian football for the better part of a decade with infallible class. Yet Dybala didn't only have to ward off the 31 goals and six assists from the perennial scorer, but also eclipsed the likes of top league scorer Ciro Immobile (Lazio), Stefan De Vrij (Inter Milan) and fellow Argentine Papu Gómez (Atalanta).

Paulo Dybala doesn't have the showstopping numbers that the aforementioned players do, but he's been electric during the 2019-20 Serie A season, with most of his goals coming in memorable ways.

Immobile was named best forward, Gomez was the best midfielder, De Vrij the best defender, and Wojciech Szczęsny (also of Juventus) took home the best goalie award. Dejan Kulusevski (Parma) took home the best young player award.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo went home empty-handed, despite another magnificent season.

Paulo Dybala (six) and Cristiano Ronaldo (10) combined to be involved in the 16 goals during the past seven fixtures of the Serie A — an effort that capped yet another rousing season atop the board.

This time around though, Ronaldo has to make way for his younger teammate, who was showered with praise after yet another successful Serie A season.
