Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo broke yet another record on Wednesday, becoming the all-time leading international goal scorer after netting a brace against Ireland in a comeback 2-1 victory. In the process, he surpassed Ali Daei, who was the leader with 109 goals to his name.

Cristiano Ronaldo reacted to his historic feat on social media:

Can we appreciate how much of a specimen he still is? The 36-year-old had the chance to net his 110th goal in the 15th minute, but his spot-kick was denied. However, Cristiano proceeded to score twice within the last 10 minutes of the second half, both fine finishes with his head.

At 111 goals, no one will likely ever catch him. Portugal actually let their talisman leave international duty on Thursday so he can get back to Manchester and train with his new club before his likely debut on September 11th. It’s going to be nostalgic seeing Cristiano Ronaldo back in a United shirt and hopefully, he can make a similar impact as his first stint at Old Trafford over a decade ago.

As for Portugal, they face Qatar in a friendly on Saturday before another World Cup qualifier next Tuesday against Azerbaijan. However, Selecao should be able to get by without Ronaldo against two teams who are below their level.
