Pro Football Hall of Famer and former NFL star Deion Sanders is now turning a new leaf and taking his talents to a head coaching job. According to a source familiar with the situation via the Clarion Ledger, the 53-year old will now serve as the head tactician of Jackson State University, a public university in Jackson, Mississippi.

Back in January, Sanders reportedly bared his plans to become a college head coach in the future, shortly after failing to be considered as a strong candidate for the head coaching job at Florida State University. He recently left NFL Network after refusing a significant pay cut and joined Barstool Sports afterward.

The two-time Super Bowl champion will be entering uncharted territories as has never held an assistant or head coaching position in both the college and the professional level. His latest stint was as an offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian in Cedar Hill, Texas. The program has won three consecutive state championships and is led by senior quarterback Shedeur Sanders, a four-star prospect who committed to Florida Atlantic last July.

Deion Sanders is set to replace former head coach John Hendrick who was dismissed from the role back on August 31 after two years of handling the reins. He will be inheriting a Jackson State Tigers football team that went on a 4-8 campaign last season.

Despite the program's current situation, it has successfully produced notable players in the past who were also enshrined at Canton, Ohio like Sanders, namely running back Walter Payton, tackle Jackie Slater, cornerback Lem Barney, and linebacker Robert Brazile.

The Jackson State Tigers are looking to make more noise in the collegiate ranks in the years to come with the arrival of Sanders at the helm.
