Surrounded by many options for what's likely to be the last big contract of his NBA career, Kyle Lowry is in for an offseason filled with tough decisions and heartbreak for many teams that would like to add him to their roster. While there's been conflicting reports about his willingness to go back to his current team, the Toronto Raptors — don't expect running mate DeMar DeRozan to be one of the people persuading him to stay.

“Last go around when he was up for free agency, I never once called him and said what he should do,” DeRozan told Sports Illustrated's DeAntae Prince. “He’d tell you himself. I’ll take the same approach. At the end of the day, he has to make the right decision for himself and his family. No matter how close we are, I never fool with that part of it. When you have a family and that dynamic comes into play, you have to do what’s best for you. He has to be able to live with whatever decision he makes, and as a friend I just have to support him.”

Lowry and DeRozan had become one of the most endearing tandems in the league, whether it was their uncanny chemistry on the court or their comical antics off the court during interviews or social media.

Yet this situation goes beyond friendship, as the 31-year-old point guard is looking to cash in big on a long-term contract and for a winning situation at this point of his career.

DeRozan signed a quick and painless multi-year extension last offseason without entertaining any offers from other suitors, but Lowry's free agency will have a much different route — generating interest from the likes of the Houston Rockets and the Minnesota Timberwolves most recently.
