The Arizona Diamondbacks and Philadelphia Phillies face off tonight in Game 7 of the NLCS. Does it get more exciting than this? After the Rangers defeated the Astros in Game 7 of the ALCS, we're now treated to yet another winner-take-all all Game 7. The Diamondbacks battled and ultimately outplayed the Phillies in Game 6, winning 5-1. With a trip to the World Series on the line, here's what MLB The Show predicted for the outcome of Game 7.
The Starters tonight are Brandon Pfaadt for the Diamondbacks and Ranger Suarez for the Phillies. Pfaadt will be looking for his first playoff win, as he's 0-0 with a 2.13 ERA. Suarez has been terrific. He's 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA. The starters are set, here's the score.
Final Score: Phillies 6, Diamondbacks 5
A tight Game 7 sees the Phillies take home the win. While MLB The Show predicted Game 6 wrong, the simulation is backing the Phillies in Game 7 to move on to the World Series. The Phillies have been punched in the mouth twice in this series and have managed to punch back both times. In this Game 7 simulation, that trend repeats itself.
It was a bit of a bullpen game for Philadelphia in this one. Suarez only pitched 3.2 innings, giving up one run and striking out one batter. Game 7 means all hands on deck, and that's exactly what happened for the Phillies. Ace Zack Wheeler came into the game and tossed two shutout innings, which was then followed by the bullpen.
Offensively, the Phillies were finally able to get other players to contribute. Trea Turner and Nick Castellanos both hit home runs and Kyle Schwarber stayed red-hot with an RBI double. Six runs was just enough production in this one to allow the pitching to do their job and hold on to the win.
The Diamondbacks battled but fell just short in MLB The Show's version. Brandon Pfaadt pitched four innings, allowing three runs. Gabriel Moreno hit a home run early to give the Diamondbacks a two-run lead, but Philly quickly battled back. Christian Walker drove in two runs late in the game to trim the deficit to just one run. Unfortunately for the Diamondbacks, that was all she wrote.
If this is how Game 7 plays out, The Phillies will take on the Rangers in Game 1 of the World Series on Saturday night. Maybe the Diamondbacks can ride their momentum and win back-to-back games on the road to advance. We'll find out tonight.
Game 7 of the NLCS starts at 8:07 PM ET.
