L.A. Clippers coach Doc Rivers had very successful stint coaching recently-retired forward Kevin Garnett.

Rivers, who coached Garnett during his time with the Boston Celtics and saw an NBA championship together in 2008, grew a bond with the future Hall-of-Famer and revealed that he had plans for the 21-year veteran if he secured a buyout from the Minnesota Timberwolves to play another season in the NBA.

Per Jackie MacMullan of ESPN:

“He doesn't want to play. I'm sure he won't play again. I think he realized, ‘Why am I doing this?'

“I would have absolutely been interested in bringing him here,” said Rivers. “You always find a place for a guy like that, whose voice in the locker room is so strong, so clear, so impactful.”

Rivers knew Garnett had it in him to play another year, even if it was just as a mentor for the younger guys on his team. Now that he's officially called it a career, Doc Rivers hints that he'll look to possibly add Garnett to his coaching staff.

“I'm going to offer him something,” Rivers said. “I don't want to say too much right now. I just know he'd be a great asset to any team.”

It would be interesting to see what coach Rivers could offer Garnett because his toughness would only help the Clippers try and take the next step towards a championship.
