The Los Angeles Dodgers managed to keep Clayton Kershaw in town, fending off the Texas Rangers to retain their star pitcher via free agency. After signing a one-year deal to remain a Dodger, Kershaw opened up on his decision to stay with the franchise. Via Fabian Ardaya, Kershaw revealed that the chance of contending for another World Series in 2022 was crucial towards his decision to stick around in Los Angeles.

Kershaw had only really been linked to the Rangers and Dodgers in free agency. The Dallas, Texas native would be playing close to home had he agreed to move to the AL West. Instead, he chose to pursue another ring, something he feels the Rangers may be a year or two away from.

The Dodgers inked Kershaw to a one-year, $17 million deal on Saturday night, putting an end to the already-slim chances the Rangers had at poaching him away. Kershaw revealed that his decision to join the Dodgers was made clear during the MLB lockout, and even admitted he called Rangers GM Chris Young to inform him of his choice on the very day MLB's lockout was lifted.

Keeping Kershaw in town was a huge boost for the already-potent Dodgers, and fans will be ecstatic to hear that his reasoning comes to down the fact that he thinks this team is capable of making another World Series run. After falling short last year with a loss to the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS, the Dodgers are hoping to have a better go at things in 2022.
